Made entirely of stone, the Old Bridge in Marignier was completed in 1788 and was for a long time the only crossing point on the Giffre River, until the arrival of the train in the 19th century.

Napoleon III used it on 1 September 1860 to travel to Chamonix to celebrate the reunification of Savoy with France.

It’s a two-minute walk from Marignier Station.

Did you know ?

Marignier Station was opened on 1 June 1890 by Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM), when it opened the La Roche-sur-Foron to Cluses section.

In the Middle Ages, Marignier was called Marinicum and is said to have been created by a knight returning from the Crusades, which could explain the presence of the crescent moon on the town's coat of arms.
