Did you know ?

Tramway du Mont-Blanc is the highest cog railway in France. The 12.4-km long route starts in St-Gervais-les-Bains-Le Fayet at an altitude of 580 metres and reaches the Nid d'Aigle at an altitude of 2372 metres in summer. The total journey takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. This project, which was repeatedly judged infeasible, was actually built and commissioned on 25 July 1909. The original plan for the TMB was to reach the summit of Mont Blanc, but the First World War put a stop to the work.
